In Ghana, the National Codex Committee (NCC) is responsible for all Codex activities. This work is done in collaboration with the Codex Contact Point (CCP). The NCC is a consultative group to the Government of Ghana on food safety issues and is made up of Stakeholder Institutions who contribute in ensuring food safety in Ghana. The NCC has oversight responsibility of all Codex activities in Ghana with coordination from the Codex Contact Point (CCP) which serves as its secretariat.

 

The NCC provides a forum for discussions and formulation of national position(s) and responses to Codex draft standards. The NCC has representation from twenty-one (21) institutions with its chairmanship alternating between the Ministries of Health, Trade and Industry and Food and Agriculture. The activities of the National codex Committee are funded by its Stakeholder institutions.

 

The NCC has established mirror committees corresponding to the committees of the Codex Alimentarius Commission to assist in technical matters and the formulation of national position(s) on Codex documents. These committees have expert representation from relevant Ministries, departments, agencies, industry, Academia, Research and consumer organizations.

OBJECTIVES

The primary objective was for the National Codex Committee to have an online presence and a domain with hosted email with focus on the following areas:

  • Improve the National Codex Committee online reach and brand equity through branded storytelling
  • Ensure secure access to the website with signed SSL certificate
  • Implement a flexible Projects area to support “in progress” work that also provides a way to convert them to “completed” work with PDF display of finish documentation to authenticated members only.
  • Dramatically improve SEO performance
  • Grow social engagement and referral traffic
